PARIS JOHNSON
Painter/Sculptor
When taking a BA in Fine Art at the University of
East London in 2008 Paris Johnson despised the idea
of drawing and painting the human figure, thinking it
as a vanity of our species and exclusive to gaining
elements of power over each other. It was only after
attending by chance his first life drawing class with
a pencil and paper in hand that his views would
change. He would find himself immersed with what
he says;
“We as a race find really is an exclusive club of which,
like it or not, we all belong.”
Through his series of life drawings Paris Johnson
focuses attention to the use of line and curve to capture
the balance, the poise and the truth of the human form,
which is so intrinsic and recognisable as such by us all.
” Not necessarily may we like what we see but we can all have a piece of it if we wish by going naked in front of the mirror.”
